Beware of Scam Emails

Scam emails are something that just about everybody has had an encounter with, sometimes they can be harmless, but a lot of the time they can unleash a wrath of fury onto your device. The main purpose of spam emails are to trick the receiver into handing over personal information like bank details or Home address.

Over the years the designs of spam emails have improved greatly, they can now disguise themselves as real companies like the post office or a local shop, due to the emails looking very legit, many people will click links that are provided on the emails and will use passwords and possibly bank details which can then be seen and stolen by the people that created the email.

Scams like these have existed for a long time, but have just evolved in recent years with technology. Companies like Bank of Ireland have reduced the amount of communication that they do over SMS message and email to reduce the risk of their customers being scammed by Fakes, they always push notifications to customers warning them of the dangers of the scams and provide some tips on how to identify a scam email or text.

All it takes is for you to input your Email address or phone number into a bad website once, and then a train of scam emails, texts and even phone calls will begin to come your way. These spam emails can claim that they are a company trying to get your information or a very popular one right now is, They pretend to be a charity that is helping refugees in Ukraine, they will ask you to donate through the link that they have provided, after you input your details into the link the scammers will retain all of your information. Another popular form that they take is claiming that you have installed ransomware after opening the email, and that you need to pay a fee to remove it.

Email platforms like Gmail and Outlook both have anti spam filters which are designed to immediately push emails into the spam folder if spam is detected, however some scammers try to outsmart the systems and manage to get the emails through.
